Japanese Contemporary Calligrapher

Noriko Maeda

Shodo Canada will be exhibiting and explaining hanging scrolls with Zen phrases traditionally used in the tea room. In addition, they will set up a table where visitors can pick up a brush and write their favourite words themselves. Shodo Canada will provide several sample words such as 楽Raku (ease/joy), 和敬Wakei (harmony and respect), and 一期一会Ichigo Ichie (treasuring each unique encounter). Participants will be able to write their chosen word by hand on a small bookmark and take it home as a keepsake. We hope that participants will take their time, enjoy the process of choosing a word while having conversations, and experience the pleasure of writing with a brush.
